Malocclusions Linked to Abnormal Foot Motion
I was the first researcher to document the link between Class II Malocclusions and the Rothbart Foot Structure. My findings were published in the Positive Health Online Magazine (October 2008).
This research was part of a series of discoveries that ultimately led to a therapy that, in many cases, permanently eliminates chronic musculoskeletal pain without the use of drugs or surgery. This therapy is called Rothbart Proprioceptive Therapy, in which I use a series of tests, proprietary computer analyses, custom designed Rothbart Proprioceptive Insoles and ongoing monitoring to address all of the changes in the patients condition and necessary changes in prescriptions, until the chronic muscle and/or joint pain is eliminated.
Malocclusions and imbalances of the cranial bones are linked to abnormal foot motion in this published paper by Professor Rothbart.
Proprioceptive insoles can prevent malocclusions from developing in young children. However, if a malocclusion has developed, orthodontic therapy should be considered (e.g. the Advanced Lightwire Functional appliance) to improve the functional alignment of the cranial bones and teeth.
Proprioceptive insoles are used to realign the head over the cervical spine. This must be done before orthodontic intervention is initiated. Otherwise, orthodontic intervention can lock the head in a forward position that will prove intractable to correction. A forward head position can result in headaches, neck and shoulder tension and pelvic instability.
