Diagnosing Rothbarts Foot using Microwedges
I was the first researcher to develop the use of microwedges (biovectors) to measure the quantify the severity of Rothbarts Foot and the use of Proprioceptive Insoles as a tool to eliminate chronic low back pain.
Here is an excerpt from the sub-article, Rothbart Foot Structure published on my research website, that ultimately led to the development of Rothbart Proprioceptive Therapy:
"A definitive diagnosis for the Primus Metatarsus Supinatus (PMs) foot type is made by measuring the PMs values (See Figures 2-3 Below). PMs values between 10mm and 25mm (approximately ½ to 1 inch) are pathognomonic of the PMs foot type (Rothbart's Foot Structure). (Measurements between 30 and 55mm are linked to the Preclinical Clubfoot Deformity and greater than 60mm, to the PreClinical Clubfoot Deformity).
How to determine the PMs Value:
- Place the weight bearing foot into its anatomical neutral position (articular facets of the subtalar joint are congruous (20).
- Slide the microwedge underneath the first metatarsal head until slight resistance is felt from the under surface of the foot
- The distance between the ground and the 1st metatarsal head is referred to as the PMs Value
