Rothbarts Foot Linked to Talar Supinatus
In 2002, in the Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies I published on a previously unknown embryological foot structure, that now bears my name (Rothbarts Foot).
This research was part of a series of discoveries that ultimately led to a therapy that, in many cases, permanently eliminates chronic musculoskeletal pain without the use of drugs or surgery. This therapy is called Rothbart Proprioceptive Therapy, in which I use a series of tests, proprietary computer analyses, custom designed Rothbart Proprioceptive Insoles and ongoing monitoring to address all of the changes in the patients condition and necessary changes in prescriptions, until the chronic muscle and/or joint pain is eliminated.
Below is an excerpt from a paper I published in Podiatry Review (May, 2009) that describes the link between Talar Supinatus and Rothbarts Foot:
"Rothbarts Foot was discovered by Dr Brian A Rothbart. He first describes the etiology of this foot type in his 2000 patent. Succinctly, Rothbart discovered the impact the embryological development has on the forefoot andmore specifically, the first metatarsal, proximal phalanx and hallux:
- If the talar head completes its normal ontogenetic development, the first metatarsal head and hallux (big toe) rests on the ground when the subtalar joint is placed in its anatomical neutral position – the plantargrade foot (See Animation Below).
- If the talar head does not complete its normal ontogenetic development, e.g., if the talar head remains in supinatus, the first metatarsal head and hallux are elevated off the ground when the subtalar joint is placed in its anatomical neutral position – the Rothbart’s Foot Structure (See Animation Below).
In this regard, the inventor has observed up to 35mm of dorsal displacement of the medial column. The twist and dorsal displacement of the medial column is hereinafter referred to as Rothbart’s Foot Structure.” (
