3 Minute Screening for Rothbarts Foot

In 2002, I published a paper in the Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies describing a previously unreported embryological foot structure which now bears my name (Rothbarts Foot).  I linked an incomplete embryological development of the talar head (the bone that sits on top of the heel bone) as the etiology (cause) of Rothbarts Foot.

This research was part of a series of discoveries that ultimately led to a therapy that, in many cases, permanently eliminates chronic musculoskeletal pain without the use of drugs or surgery.  This therapy is called Rothbart Proprioceptive Therapy, in which I use a series of tests, proprietary computer analyses, custom designed Rothbart Proprioceptive Insoles and ongoing monitoring to address all of the changes in the patients condition and necessary changes in prescriptions, until the chronic muscle and/or joint pain is eliminated.

Subsequently, I developed a 3 minute screening test to determine if the individual has Rothbarts Foot, or not.  This 3 minute screening test consisting of three separate tests:
  • (1)  A positive Knee Bend Test indicated by an inward and downward twisting of the ankle when the knees are bent (see animation below).
  • (2)  Uneven wear patterns in the heels and/or soles of the shoes (see animation below).
  • (3)  A deep 1st web space
Interpretation of Findings:
  1. If one of the three screening tests is positive, there is a 65% Level of Confidence that the individual has Rothbarts Foot.
  2. If two of the three screening tests are positive, there is a 75% Level of Confidence that the individual has Rothbarts Foot.
  3. If all three of the the screening tests are positive, there is a 85% Level of Confidence that the individual has Rothbarts Foot.

However, the Gold Standard for determining if the individual has Rothbarts Foot or not, is by determining the Primus Metatarsus Supinatus Value (PMs Value).  The protocol for taking this measurement is described in my published paper, Medial Column Foot Systems: An Innovative Tool for Improving Posture, or on my research blog - Measuring the Severity of Rothbarts Foot.
