Gravity Induced Pronation vs Hip Drive Pronation

I was the first researcher to publish on how gravity disrupts the pronation pattern in Rothbarts Foot (Journal Manipulative Physiological Therapeutics, 1988).  I compared this to the normal pronation pattern directed by hip drive in a Non Rothbarts Foot (See Animation below).

This research was part of a series of discoveries that ultimately led to a therapy that, in many cases, permanently eliminates chronic musculoskeletal pain without the use of drugs or surgery.  This therapy is called Rothbart Proprioceptive Therapy, in which I use a series of tests, proprietary computer analyses, custom designed Rothbart Proprioceptive Insoles and ongoing monitoring to address all of the changes in the patients condition and necessary changes in prescriptions, until the chronic muscle and/or joint pain is eliminated.

Below is an excerpt from my paper that was published in the Journal Manipulative Physiologic Therapeutics, 1988:

"Ambulation is an internal/external rotation of the pelvis around the weight bearing axis of the body.  The total amount of this rotation varies from individual to individual.  As the pelvis swings forward, the femur and tibia synchronously rotate internally.  It is this internal shank rotation that generates rearfoot pronation at heel contact.

An excessive range of foot pronation can result from structural weaknesses within the foot itself (e.g., Rothbarts Foot and/or PreClinical Clubfoot Deformity).  In such cases, the foot no longer follows the pronation pattern generated by the pelvis (e.g., hip drive)."

External rotation of the left hip and leg should supinate the left foot.  However, in Rothbarts Foot, when the left hip and leg are externally rotating, the left foot is pronating.
